Situated off the main Aspe valley and in the confines of Baretous, the village extends throughout the length of this attractive valley. The latter is made up of a patchwork of villages which used to belong to the municipality of Osse-en-Aspe but became part of an independent municipality in the 19th century. Other enclaves spill over into the Lourdios basin: below the Ichère Pass, the southern slopes of Arraillé belong to Sarrance; on the left bank of the Gave de Lourdios, the Bourdès District (below the Lie Pass and as far as Issor and the Gorges of the Pibot) belongs to Arette. Aside from administrative divisions, the local people feel very strongly that they belong to Lourdios.
The history of these families is rooted in the nearby muncipalities. In times past, the younger sons that were obliged to leave their maternal homes would acquire their independence by clearing new land for cultivation. A spectacular sight can be seen at the mouth of the Ichère, where we find perfectly tended pastures despite the steepness of the slopes and farmers are proud to maintain their heritage. The Ecomuseum exhibition dedicated to livestock management and entitled "Un village se raconte" (Story of a village) is not to be missed.
