The cross-country ski resort of Le Somport and the circuit of Candanchú make up one of the best environments in the Pyrenees for practising Nordic skiing. It is situated in the Aspe valley, straddling the border at the heart of the mountain pass and has 34 kilometres of pistes (25 on the French side and 9 on the Spanish side).
Le Somport is at an altitude of 1,600 metres and forms part of the Pyrenees National Park. Its circuits are set in spectacular scenery and pass through thick pine and beech forests. There are 9 pistes in total with a range of levels, this being one of the most demanding and technical centres in Aragon. The resort has a cafeteria, equipment rental, lockers and a room for waxing skis. There is also a playroom for children, saunas and a small hostel which can accommodate 12 people.
In Candanchú, on the south side, there is a complete cross-country circuit divided into three routes. This circuit often hosts the National Cross-country Championships as it is one of the few FIS-approved circuits in Spain for the organisation of competitions both in classic and free technique. The facilities also include the Candanchú Biathlon stadium which has 29 shooting lanes, a variable penalty loop and a timing area.
