Lescun is one of the most beautiful and spectacular natural landscapes of the Aspe/Jacetania territory. This marvellous natural amphitheatre is surrounded by peaks of mythical status and over 2,000 metres in altitude such as the Table of the Three Kings (La Mesa de los Tres Reyes), Anie, Needles of Ansabere, Billere, Acherito or Soum Couy. It is a paradise for climbing and trekking enthusiasts as it offers a range of changes in altitude and a variety of levels of difficulty that are unmatched in the area. The vast bulk of Billere (2,309 metres), is the peak that dominates the view from the attractive village of Lescun. It is also one of the geographic barriers that divides the cirque into separate areas – the southern part which leads to the Palo Pass (Puerto de Palo), and Oza, the small valley that leads to the Needles of Ansabere and Petrechema and to the north, the plateau of Sanchese.
The proud pointed peaks which surround the great cirque rise like great limestone teeth that form an awe-inspiring backdrop. This group of peaks has come to be known as the “Dolomites of the Pyrenees” and its sharp profiles belong to the most abrupt section of this mountain range, where beauty and danger combine to form an intoxicating cocktail. Lovers of mountain-climbing will be challenged by the ascent to the rocky summit of Billere which dominates the surrounding landscape. From its summit the views are unparalleled. The folds of Lescun build up to the easily recognizable Midi d’Ossau. In the distance is Balaitus, to the south-east the mountains of Aisa and Bermera rising above the impressive Selva de Oza in the Spanish valley of Hecho.
If we continue turning clockwise we can gaze at an exceptional sequence of mythical Pyrenean peaks to the south-west, at the westernmost limits of the range. These peaks are under 3,000 metres high but they are the precursors of the spectacular higher peaks. Acherito and the Table of the Three Kings ((La Mesa de los Tres Reyes) with the Needles of Ansabere standing guard between them. Northwards, the cirque closes with the Auñamendi-Anie and compelling Orgues de Camplong. To the west, we can see the unmistakeable karst plateau of Larra, one of the most surprising and captivating spectacles of the Pyrenees of Navarre.
