It is here, in the municipality of Artieda and at the foot of the colourful village of the same name, that one of the most interesting stretches of the Santiago Pilgrimage Route through Aragon makes its way. Despite the process of land consolidation and the building of the Yesa reservoir which damaged or destroyed some historic sections altogether, there are still a great number of points of interest related to the pilgrimage route which are worth a visit. These include the Corral (barn) de Peronero, some relevant Roman remains, the famous Venta (tavern) of Artieda or a few metres from the path, the well-known chapel of St Peter in Artieda.
Next to the church of St Martin of Tours and in the very centre of the village, the Tower of Artieda is home to an interesting exhibition on the Santiago Route. The building has four floors of approximately 24 m2 per floor and an unusual external spiral staircase attached to the outside of the tower. This space attempts to recreate the four seasons as symbols of the four stages of man (infancy, youth, adulthood and old age) by means of atmosphere, light and sound. Likewise, it seeks to offer a parallel with the Santiago Way: as the visitor climbs the steps of the tower towards the belfry, the light becomes brighter and the views broader, in the same way as a pilgrim on the “Camino” experiences happiness and the achievement of a personal goal on arrival at his destination.
