Jasa is a typical Pyrenean village situated on the left bank of the Osia river in the Aragües Valley. Its economy is traditional and based on subsistence agriculture, livestock raising and the use and maintenance of forestry resources. Rustic barns, farm buildings and large traditional houses with inglenook chimneys decorated with figures to ward off the witches bear witness to the rural lifestyle. Among its houses is the birthplace of the famous jurist and minister during the First Republic - Joaquín Gil Berges.
One of the most deeply-rooted traditions of this village is its local dance, which is closely related to similar dances in the nearby villages of the Aisa Valley, Aragüés and Embún. It is probably one of the richest and most varied dances in the Aragonese Pyrenees. This very colourful dance involves the use of sticks, iron bars from cooking spits, handkerchiefs or ribbons and is the object of permanent study and research.
Jasa has a small Ethnographic Museum with a collection of all manner of utensils, tools and objects which serve to illustrate day-to-day life, folk culture and traditional economic activities. A series of information boards and photographs describing the school, the work in the fields, the bedroom, the fireside, the chemist’s and the traditional crafts and dress attempt to rekindle and preserve the collective memory.
